In fact, in the Hebrew Law, it was\u00a0called the Festival of Trumpets.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses were closed on New Year&#8217;s, and in addition, the law prohibited working from home as well. The Hebrew Scripture mentions the day in Leviticus 23:23-24.<\/p>\n<p>The Gospel writers suggest that\u00a0in Jesus&#8217; experience, he followed the Hebrew Law\u00a0recorded by Moses,\u00a0so we can assume that on this day he\u00a0listened to the trumpet blasts and enjoyed\u00a0the\u00a0down-time.<\/p>\n<p>No walking\/traveling and\u00a0no teaching that would qualify as work. Jesus could enjoy New Year&#8217;s day at home with family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>New Year&#8217;s is a good example of how we\u00a0relate more deeply\u00a0to Jesus&#8217; experience by knowing a little bit of the ancient Hebrew Law.
